Of Land and Local is a project initiated by Burlington City Arts that explores the deep and vital relationship between farmers and the land they cultivate. Bringing together over 60 artists from across Vermont, the project investigates this connection through a rich variety of media.
My contribution focuses on former refugees who farm for half the year through the New Farms for New Americansinitiative—a gardening and agricultural program designed to equip refugees and immigrants with the skills, resources, and support needed to grow food for themselves and their communities.
This series of photographs was commissioned by Burlington City Arts (BCA) to highlight the resilience, labor, and hope embedded in these farmers’ relationships with the land.
