As South Sudan struggles to find peace, Puro Okelo, South Sudanese/Canadian, is focused on training young South Sudanese at becoming kickboxing champions. It is not easy to practice on a daily basis due to lack of proper diet, a safe gym and appropriate training equipments. Despite all the challenges, these young men and women train, sweat and learn to transcend their ethnic differences so they can be one kickboxing team to represent the youngest country, their country: South Sudan.
Puro Okelo is a former North American Kickboxing Champion and founder of the African kickboxing academy. The South Sudanese Kickboxing team has more than 46 active members and so far the team has participated in several fighting competitions in Juba and in neighboring countries.
